Votes at 16

In order to enhance and develop the voting system in the UK, I believe that it is essential for 16-year olds have the right to vote.

We must empower 16 and 17-year olds, through a democratic right, to influence decisions that will define their future. By law, a 16-year-old can marry, work, pay tax, join a trade union or a co-operative society and join the army.

Today I am very proud to attend the debate around lowering the voting age to 16. 16 year olds can have a full time job, pay tax, marry, serve in the army and are perfectly able to make an informed decision. We need to include as many people as possible in our democracy and I hope we can do that today!
